Preservation Age
Your preservation age is the minimum age at which you can access your superannuation, provided you meet certain conditions of release.
Quick Reference:
Birth Year Dependant. Keeps Savings Locked. Set by Government.
Expanded Explanation:
The preservation age prevents early withdrawal of super. It ensures your super is used for retirement income rather than general spending. For example, someone born after July 1964 can access their super from age of 60, while those born earlier may access it sooner. Super may also be released earlier under strict conditions such as financial hardship, terminal illness, or permanent incapacity.
